How quickly can you get back to business as usual?

Dean Ashmore • Sep 29, 2021

Whether it’s a greenfield project or a repair to be completed within a maintenance window timeline, getting the job done properly and returning to business as usual as quickly as possible can be rather challenging. Understanding the pressure of compressed timelines Kagetec® has a range of screed and mortar bed systems that can easily accommodate our clients' time constraints.

Broken down in terms of return to services windows of 24 hours, 7 days, and 14 days all screed and mortar bed installations are available as a bonded or unbonded system and can be installed at a slope of 1 to 3%, with a variance tolerance of 1 to 3mm over three meters. Where necessary the screed and mortars can be reinforced per the engineer’s specification.

24-Hour return to service

For projects with a critical timeline our rapid cure CAC mortar bed allows us to deliver a floor with full loading capability within a weekend’s work. This mortar achieves 60-70MPa in six hours and a moisture content of <5% in the same timeline.

For projects with a more lenient timeline, we rely on our zero slump chemical screed which combines high-quality materials and specialist chemicals to achieve the desired strength. In addition to the specialist chemicals, our screed comprises high-strength cement and a combination of river, plaster, and dune sand. No aggregates are added ensuring that we can apply the screed at 1% to the desired falls and flatness.

7-Day return to service

By applying a bespoke bonding layer to the chemical screed after 24 and again at 36 hours before tiling, the screed will achieve full loading capacity after seven days. This is an ideal solution for projects with a compressed timeline.

14-Day return to service

This is the standard timeline for delivering a tiled floor achievable with our dry chemical screed.

It is a harsh reality that building and maintenance projects rarely run smoothly. In manufacturing environments where time is money and delays can be ill-afforded, it is comforting to have a product where the installation window can be reduced without compromising the final product in any way.

Movement joints can make or break your floor
By Dean Ashmore 03 Dec, 2021
When repairing and installing floor joints without the guidance of architectural specifications or engineering drawings it may be tempting to disregard the need for proper joint care. However, not preparing the joints for the stresses it has to endure is a penny-wise pound-foolish approach that will almost surely result in floor failure.

By Vanessa Ashmore 03 Jun, 2020
Kagetec is a German company with some 35 years’ experience, whose purpose-designed resins sets them apart from other industrial tile installers. More than just a tile, installation technique or resin medium, Kagetec is a total system that relies on the sum of its component parts and installation methods to provide highly technical flooring systems well-suited the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries. Kagetec South Africa are the accredited installers of Kagetec systems in South Africa and a turnkey solutions provider from raft to finished floor surface. Collaborating with your project professional team on the design of the floor, we work to gain an understanding of the mechanical, thermal, and chemical loads the floor will be exposed to. In addition to the life expectancy and panel sizes of the floor, ascertaining the composition, volume and viscosity of any fluid discharge, as well as the exposure timeline will allow us to recommend a system that will best address your needs. Tiles are available in a variety of colours, thicknesses, and offer varying degrees of slip resistance. Our product offering also includes channel- and floor drains, unique to Kagetec, which we also install ourselves. The Kagetec GFK system Kagetec GFK is a unique and incredibly strong system that uses plastic mesh reinforcing set in the epoxy slurry adhesive between the tiles and the bedding medium. The GFK system is ideal for high stress areas, especially those subject to temperature extremes. Kagetec GFK is an ideal solution for food and beverage manufacturing and pharmaceutical facilities. We offer a 10-year performance warranty all tile installations, Ts & Cs apply. GFK system methodology A heavy-duty chemical mortar is applied to the concrete raft; this can be bonded or unbonded installation. A high strength fiber mesh is installed, and a base coat resin is applied on top. The Hexalith tiles are embedded in accordance with the tile layout provided by the professional design team. A chemical resistant grouting is applied into the tile joints and the movement joints (i.e. construction, isolation or expansion joints) are filled in line with the design specification. Skirting and wall tiles can be matched with the floor tiles for a uniform aesthetic. Depending on the project program or financial considerations the GFK system is available in seven- or 14-day loading capability. Contact sales@kagetec-sa.co.za for a quote.

Becosan Polished Concrete
By Vanessa Ashmore 28 Aug, 2019
Craft Flooring & Coatings was approached by the owner of Venue 466 to assist with an unsightly delaminating floor covered with an epoxy coating that offered very little slip resistance. By treating the floor with Becosan’s non-film forming treatment the facility now boasts a beautiful non-slip, low maintenance concrete floor that will not delaminate.
